Help keep our pool afloat

We are currently facing an unexpected and urgent issue with our aquatic therapy pool which is over 10 years old now. Following essential inspections, it has become clear that the pool must be fully stripped, re-rendered and re-tiled to ensure it remains safe and fit for use. The works will take approximately six weeks to complete and are not covered by insurance. Our pool has therefore been forced to close whilst repairs take place.

While the pool is closed, we will experience:

  • Temporary disruption to services for 162 people living with neurological conditions, based on regular usage in January and February
  • Over 2,100 aquatic therapy and activity sessions unable to take place during this period
  • A loss of approximately £6,500 in therapy income
  • A cost of approximately £12,000 for the work itself
  • Additional loss of pool hire income from external users

Hydrotherapy pools are increasingly rare in Kent, and our pool supports a wide range of programmes including aquatic physiotherapy, aqua yoga, aqua circuits and supervised leisure swimming. During the closure, members will miss out on the physical and emotional benefits these sessions provide, as well as the routine and confidence that come with regular attendance.

Our 2025 impact survey showed that participation in aqua yoga and aquatic therapy is associated with:

  • Improved quality of life
  • Improved muscle strength
  • Improved mood

One member shared:

“My hydro sessions have a massive impact on my mobility and general movement. The water supports me providing me with full body work out especially during the colder months when my options are limited and my MS has a tendency to flare up.”

Another told us: “The induction and first sessions boosted my confidence no end. Since attending regularly, my walking, strength and mobility have improved significantly.”

To manage the financial impact of this unplanned closure and ensure the pool can reopen without long-term effect on our services, we have launched an Emergency Aquatic Therapy Appeal to raise £20,000 within the next six weeks.

Your support could…

  • £100 – fund a hoisted aqua therapy session
  • £500 – fund a day’s timetable of vital aquatic therapy sessions
  • £1,000 – fund a week of aqua yoga and social swims
  • £2,500 – fund a full week’s timetable of life altering aquatic sessions

We would be very grateful if you would consider supporting this appeal. The money raised would help offset lost income during the closure period, help cover the costs of repair and protect access to specialist aquatic therapy once the pool reopens.

How to support:

Thank you very much for taking the time to consider our request. I would be happy to provide further information or discuss the appeal in more detail.

Kind regards,

Heidi Coleman
